Fun, witty romcom

This romcom has a rather dull title, which, if it hadn't been for free preview tickets, probably wouldn't have lured me to the cinema. It also included in the lead one of my less favoured actresses - Meryl Streep.
However, it turned out to be a well written and acted comedy that had many 'laugh out loud' moments - perfect for a Sunday evening.
Meryl Streep was very believable in the main role and played out a very realistic character in a film that wasn't full of the usual over-the-top Hollywood sentimentality. Alec Baldwin played her x-husband, having left her for the typical younger woman. Looking his age, and with a bit of a paunch, he pulled off a decent 'twinkle in the eye' lawyer. However, I found Steve Martin outshone him playing a rather more introspective character without any of the annoying characteristics of his more typical roles in e.g. Father of the Bride.
The surprise performance was from John Krasinski - someone i hadn't come across before - as a current boyfriend of one of their children - who delivered some great lines and helped the dynamic of the main storyline.
Overall this is a feelgood movie about life post-divorce and the changing dynamics and priorities pre- and post-divorce.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 05 May 2013It's Complicated is not, it's simple. A simple story with some nice warm moments, some funny moments and some poignant moments. A good watch, it made an enjoyable evening. Whilst it is not of 'block buster award standard' it is a really nice film and made us laugh and is worthwhile watching.- Was this review helpful to you?
