This lacklustre update of Jack Arnold's1953 classic has Brian Kerwin witnessing the arrival of the aliens while on a desert photo assignment. It 's not too long before the blue rocks scattered from the spacecraft are causing havoc in the local community, where the townsfolk are being replicated by aliens. Just to add to the fun, the temperatures are soaring and the water supply is disappearing. Proof positive that 40 years of technical advances can't compensate for poor production values, boring characters and a complete lack of thrills. File this under don't bother.
Quite bright science fiction, the first to use this theme of borrowing bodies and the first to utilize the Western desert locations. 3-D adds a shock moment or two.
I hadn't seen this in years and thought it might be good to pass a couple hours, but it was so much more. It's story driven, the dialogue rarely makes you cringe, and the acting a step above your typical B-movie. It's a shame I can't watch it in it's 3-D glory, but it's good enough that you don't need gimmicks to enjoy it.
A must for anyone who likes 50s sci-fi.
