It Takes Two

In this "Prince and the Pauper"-inspired tale, two girls who are the spitting image of each other decide to switch places to bring their lonely parents together before adoption separates them forever. Tomboy Amanda resides in a Manhattan orphanage, where she receives lots of attention from social worker Diane Barrows, whom she adores. Alyssa is the cultured daughter (snotty rich kid) of wealthy widower Roger Calloway, and a dead ringer for Amanda. The two girls meet when Amanda attends a camp near Alyssa's home, and they like each other so much that they hatch a plan: to match-make their parents, so they can all live together happily ever after. But there's a fly in the ointment--Roger's witchy, golddigging, child-hating fiancee Clarice.

A bland twist on The Parent Trap, this story has two identical-in-appearance girls from opposite sides of the tracks (US TV stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) teaming up to bring their single parents (Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg) together. So cute it will make your teeth ache, it was directed by Andy Tennant, who has since gone on to work with much better material in the romantic comedies Fools Rush In and Ever After. Very missable unless you're a little girl aged six.

  • A modern, not very interesting, variation on The Prince and the Pauper, which may keep those who can identify with its twee heroines moderately quiet on a rainy afternoon.

    superb.........

my daughter's loved this dvd. the story is about Amanda who lives in an orphanage, where her only real friend is her social worker and Alyssa who is the only child of a multi-millionaire.

During one summer, the two girls meet by accident , and hatch a daring plan.

They switch places, and try to get Amanda's social worker and Alyssa's dad to fall in love, before he marries an awful woman.

But when the fiance finds out what is going on, can the girls pull off there plan. watch it to find out. you will not be disappointed.

Big success. It seems as if this is quite an early MK and A film, when they "just" had parts instead of controlling the whole thing. As a result (?), this movie is one of the more popular ones with my children.
