Deeply Flawed, Often Beautiful

Without the staggering central performance by Danny Huston, Ivans XTC would be a complete mess, a meandering, badly acted, often shockingly badly shot (and I'm a fan of DV) feature film.
However once Huston enters frame, the film comes alive and his magnetic performance stuns you into silence. The desperation of a man with little time is conveyed shockingly intimately, sometimes so much so that the viewer may feel uncomfortable. However the film concludes with a beautifully observed, deeply moving scene that will leave you breathless. A poor film overall, then, but saved by a remarkable performance.
