Eastwood's Decent Bio of Fascinating Character
By 5ft7offootballheaven (300 reviews) from London , 13 Nov 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Crikey. Impressive biopic. Some defective prosthetic in the ageing scenes I think. The 'companion' Clyde ended up looking like the android fella on Red Dwarf.
50 years of American power politics. Interesting.- Was this review helpful to you?

Interesting and Well Made Biopic
By Chrisaljack (304 reviews) from Hellingly , 06 May 2013Probably Leonardo DiCaprio in his best acting role plus a great support cast (including Judi Dench as his mother) with superb direction by Clint Eastwood has all the ingredients of a really great film. Unfortunately J Edgar - despite his fifty years plus as FBI supremo - after a dynamic start to his career where his dynamism and determination and a very clever mind was to shoot him to power in his 20's, was not much more than a power hungry blackmailer of top politicians in his later years. This film transmits this fact well. An interesting and well made biopic.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hoover is no hero.
By Zebras22 (36 reviews) , 06 May 2013A very well directed portrait of Hoover by Clint Eastwood. Dicaprio is improving film by film. He was a deeply disturbed man and the power went to his head. Well worth a watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

Clever and intriguing if you're willing to pay attention
By AnnekaHannah (6 reviews) , 03 May 2013Quiet, clever and respectfully done. Leonardo diCaprio is good rather than exceptional, but Arnie Hammer is excellent as his right hand man. Poor lighting choices and the skipping of the story between present and past is occasionally confusing, although it may be easier to follow for those familiar with Hoover's life and work. Worth a watch if you're willing to pay attention.- Was this review helpful to you?
