Assistant D.A. David Corelli (David Caruso) is trapped between friendship and the law when the brutal murder of an important San Franciso millionaire points toward his former lover and college friend, Trina Gavin (Linda Fiorentino), a beautiful woman with a mysterious alter ego. As details of the murder victim's sexual escapades emerge, Corelli uncovers evidence that the victim was blackmailing a powerful politician with incriminating photographs. But as the crucial witnesses are systematically murdered and attempts on Corelli's life are made, the case assumes a paranoid veneer in which nothing is certain and no one can be trusted. Set against a backdrop of the immaculate mansions of the San Francisco wealthy with a decorative fetish for the ancient Far East and contrasted with a classic Friedkin chase scene through the city's Chinatown, JADE is a lush, dark, and suspenseful sexual thriller from the writer of BASIC INSTINCT that will keep the audience guessing until the very last scene.

William Friedkin's slick direction can't hide the trashy heart of this Joe Eszterhas scripted psycho thriller, which NYPD Blue TV actor David Caruso banked on to make him a Hollywood star. No such luck. He's an assistant DA who takes on the case of old flame Linda Fiorentino, a clinical psychologist who may be leading a double life as a murderous prostitute. Chazz Palminteri is the third part of a murky eternal triangle in this ludicrous cocktail of political corruption, unsavoury sex and pointless intrigue. No one emerges with credit from this absurd farrago that's drenched in off-putting cinematic excess.

  • A bungled attempt at an erotic thriller, in which the murder makes less sense the more we are told about it; the narrative is just an excuse for a little sleaze, including irrelevant scenes of sexual activity.

this one kept us in our seats, right from the start it has you in its grips, the settings are great, the music haunting and in some places is quite sexually explicit.

The only minor problem we thought was that it was too obvious.

Still we still enjoyed it and would watch it again and again it just takes a hold and wont let go until you have watched the whole thing through.

    Jade: early promise not fulfilled

Opening sequence is stylish and atmospheric, but the film goes steadily downhill from there.

Characters are superficial and plot is not very believable. Lots of loose ends that don't get tied up. We picked out the villain very early on. Not disastrous, but a bit disappointing.

    Terminator: Past, Present & Future

    • 27 May 2009

It’s not the oldest franchise in town, and certainly not the most prolific (it can’t compete with Friday the 13th, for example), but The Terminator series is the only one that has pursued an on-going millennial dialogue between the twentieth and the early twenty first century. In James Cameron’s 1984 original, the Terminator and Kyle Reese come back in time from 2029 bringing the war between man and machines with them. Kyle also brought news of a potential saviour, a leader... Read more
