For those of you who do not know the work of Svankmajer but find yourselves here and reading take it as a sign. This is the heart of stop motion and surrealism. Even if these things are nothing you care for, you will not find any other work as darkly imaginative as on these discs. Take a chance and open up for wonder.
For those that know the works this bfi edition is unsurpassed and the extras on disc three include two feature length documentries that hold some important keys to the works mostly from small remarks from Svankmajer himself.
I was a little annoyed. I thought all the collection would be included as one choice and by the time i realised this wasn't so they had sent the second disc-but actually I enjoyed that more than the first. I guess if you like moving stones, people creeping about in the dark in apartment blocks, characters behaving in inexplicable ways, you'll have a lovely time. I fast-forwarded through most of disc ! and I LOVE svankmayer's long films.
Whether out of guilt or just an enlightened belief in movies, the French have a commendable record for fostering filmmaking in their former colonies in Asia and West Africa.
