[Highly rated reviewer]I was rather disappointed with last scene... To be honest there was no need to re-make this film.... The 2006 re-make was better

OK - try a previous version firstBy Nikki78 (10 reviews) from York , 30 Jan 2013Not a bad version of the classic tale although I think previous versions were better. I didn't like the way it wasn't done chronologically. I think you lose a lot of the build up when this is done in films. If you have never read the book or seen a previous film then don't watch this. Try another version first.
brilliant (and I hate period dramas!)By a customer , 26 Jan 2013I'm not a big fan of period dramas and A Level English put me off classic fiction from the likes of Bronte and Dickens. However this film had me gripped from the start. Great stuff!
Wouldn't give it the time of dayBy dotty-lottie (22 reviews) , 13 Jan 2013Utter Rubbish. I have honestly never seen such a bad adaptation of Jane Eyre. I LOVE Jane Eyre, and this was such a bad film! Charlotte Bronte would turn in her grave if she knew about this adaptation. It starts half way through the novel which was very annoying, and the ending was very very VERY bad, I was expecting at least another hour. I don't know how this film got any good reviews. The acting was OK I suppose, and this may sound a bit silly, but it wasn't long enough. You can't pull off a good adaptation of such a classic in under 2 hours can you? I'd like to meet the director and tell him what I think!!! I'll stick to the BBC version starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stevens (The BEST version in my opinion!!!) But please I BEG OF YOU don't give it the time of day!
Big disapointment!By a customer , 10 Jan 2013Jane Eyre is one of my favourite novels but i have to say, I was pretty disapointed with this film. Wasikowska, I thought was actually quite good in the lead as Jane and for me, Judi Dench can do no wrong! However, Fassbender was completely unconvincing as Rochester, and though there were some moments which were emotive, and glimmers of humour, overall, I found the film very boring and dreary. It lacked the atmosphere and suspense of the novel, and seemed to be rushing to pack everything in. Not great!
Loved it!By moll2602 (1 review) , 14 Dec 2012Had just finished reading the book so was keen to get a version on DVD and this one didn't disappoint. Was a little confused by the beginning (which is a storyline about 3/4 way through the book). Very romantic and moving
