Rambling semi-classic mythological fantasy which keeps its tongue firmly in its cheek and provides a framework for some splendid stop-frame animation.

Jason and the Argonauts is one of my all time childhood favourites and has been hailed a classic for its amazing visual effects by Ray Harryhausen. How ever I have rated this film not on nostalga or heroism but on fact.
This is one of those special films that doesn't age. Based on the greek mythology of the classic adventure for the golden fleece, full of everything for the family. It's got it all! The romance, the fight scenes, and some of the best plastascene models even by todays standards. The acting is fair but the script is basic and it ends abruptly! It isn't the best of films bought out at the same time. Clash of the titans is far better script wise and for great adventure I'd turn to Sinbad.
If your a Ray Harryhausen fan you'll love it, and it's a good one to make the kids watch purely for its good clean action/adventure.
All in all though I'd recomend you all watch it because it is a CLASSIC and if you don't like it, it's one of those films that you appreciate for what it is!
Gods and heroes, titans and harpies, a hydra and fighting skeletons, all brought to life by Harryhausen's animation techniques. This was one of Harryhausens' favourite films, but it didn't do well in the USA, which is why although the story sets itself up for a sequel, none was ever made. Plenty of action and over-the-top characters, the only disappointment I had with this DVD was the film transfer itself, which although giving bright colours in light scenes, is rather grainy in twilight scenes.

Has always been a favourite of mine and my family and with the
olympics happening it was a great alternative.
Has always been a classic and will always be.

This is a wonderful film a true classic.
Everyone should have watched this film, especially when they were 10 years old:)
It was recently re-made into a two part TV movie but that version pales in comparison to this original.
Nice interview with Ray Harryhausen on some of the models he created for the film.
There is no cgi in this movie, the special effects are all stop motion animation, made in 1963 way before computers . . .fantastic entertainment for any age.
Great family entertainment for a saturday night, mind you the 8 headed dragon was a bit scary :)

Really enjoyed this film. The special effects by Ray Harryhausen seem even more impressive now. Its great rainy Saturday afternoon entertainment. The extra documentary was pretty interesting. I recommend it!
I first watched this film at the cinema back in the 60's and several times since and could sit and watch it again.........Brilliant
This is the story of Jason and his quest to gain the throne of the Kingdom of Thessaly by searching for the magical Golden Fleece.
The animation and special effects in this movie are legendary (especially the battle with the army of skeletons).
Excellent viewing.
