    [Highly rated reviewer]

' Jason And The Argonauts' tells

the tale of Jason the young boy

who returns to seek the throne

which is rightfully his. but Hera, queen of Mount Olympus has made an agreement with her husband, Zeus that

Jason search for the golden fleece which has the power of eternal life.

so Jason does so by hiring on sailors like Hercules - the strongest man alive

and Zeus's son. the film dosen't exactly have Hercules as the wise, brave

hero but more the carefree, matcho man.

with some wondrous effects the statues of talos, the cursed skeletons, the hydra etc all courtesy of special effects genius Ray Harryhausen [ Clash Of The Titans, Golden Voyage of Sinbad]

this film really is fabulous. i saw this film when i was 11 and have been in love with it ever since. you must see this movie it's well worth it!

I first saw this film as a kid and remember being mesmerised by the mystic of the story driven by fantastic special effects which were ahead of their time. No matter how many times i see this film the feeling it engenders is of being directly involved in Jason's and his crew's voyage to find the golden Fleece, great cinematic story telling.

Greek mythological tale of Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece. Fast paced action right to the very end. Some humour, much heroism and magic, with special effects impressive for it's age.

Ends rather suddenly with many questions unanswerred, almost as though a follow-up film was originally planned. Worth watching or re-watching

love these old films, yeah when you look at them from the CGI point of view of today, they were a little cheesy in their special effects, but that was and is the attraction to these sort of films.

    nuff said defo worth watching

  • Still as Good as ever

I first watched this movie when I was young and loved it then, and having recently revisited, it still appears as good as ever.

Ok, so the acting is very hammy and slightly wooden at times, with plenty of proverbial cheese, which could be a tad offputting to some, BUT put this to oneside and what we have here is a fantasy adventure based on the Greek myth which will take you on a jam packed adventure with plenty of thrills to keep you well entertained throughout the film.

Ray Harryhausen's special effects are simply brilliant and provide the best set pieces for the film. The awakening of the giant bronze statue of the Titan Talos and the battle with the army of animated skeletons must rank alongside the best cinematic moments ever (if i say so myself!). There are plenty of animated mythical monsters in there to make small children hide behind cushions and stay awake for nights on end, and to even have the adults fearing for the Argonauts survival.

Overall, although it has quite clearly dated a lot since its 1963 release, it is still a great watch and something that I'd highly recommend as viewing for anyone who hasn't watched the film. Very enjoyable.
