Live concert film from Jay-Z's so-called "retirement concert" at NYC's Madison Square Garden. A typically strong performance from Jay featuring several special guest artists like Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Ghostface Killah and Mary J Blige.
However it's not just a concert performance movie... it's also part fly-on-the-wall documentary following Jay-Z as he works on his final "Black Album" and this footage is the best part of this film.
It follows Jay at work in the studio, selecting (and rejecting!) beats from some of hip-hop's best producers and generally shows the background to making an album.
Definitely one for anyone who loves their hip-hop. Even if you don't, it's worth watching alone just to see how strange Rick Rubin's house is and Jay-Z's face when Timbaland first plays him the beat for "Dirt Off Your Shoulder"!
