Gone are the poop jokes (although we do get to see a dirty nappy) and the constant references to dope smoking. In are all the trappings of the sentimental film, almost to the point where you're hoping that Kevin Smith is satirising.
Unfortunately not, but that's not to say it's a bad film; everyone has to change direction once in a while. This was an enjoyable film, thankfully lacking too much of Ms Lopez and Mr Affleck all over each other, but I did find that the soft-rawk soundtrack quite grating in places. It hit all the generic conventions of a sentimental slushy film, to the point where you could predict every movement and every piece of dialogue.
It was a pleasant way to pass the time, but this will the first Kevin Smith film that will not be joining my DVD collection.
