    Depressing

Quite a slow moving story and finished the film feeling down in the dumps.

    Watch this first

This is slightly downbeat & slow to get going but Tom Selleck pulls off the central role, a world weary detective with a (controlled) drink problem, convincingly & with enough charm to keep you hooked. Well worth watching.

Set in a small New England town, Selleck plays the local police chief who has to solve murders & contend with women who seem to find him attractive. What’s he got that I haven’t?

This was the first story to be written featuring the detective Jesse Stone (Selleck) although not the first to be filmed. The first movie, ‘Stone Cold’, is also available for hire &, if you like Selleck, I would really recommend you get it out – after you’ve watched this. While entertaining in it’s own right ‘Night Passage’ is best seen as an entertaining curtain raiser to the lighter, wry follow up. A third movie in the series comes to Tesco Rental in a month or two.

    NOT BAD

Magnum is a bit doom and gloom is this. One or two funny comments by him reminding of you how he was in Magnum.

Overall an average film.Don't expect great car chases or action,as it doesn't deliver. However the story is ok.

He plays quite a good part in it,although i would have liked him to be a bit happier.

Worth a watch, but nothing groundbreaking and nowhere near as good as films like RONIN etc.

    SLOW, WEAK PLOT, BUT,,,,,,,,

THIS IS A VERY SLOW FILM, WITH A WEAK PLOT. YET SELLECK PULLS THE FILM TOGETHER HIMSELF. DONT KNOW WHY I LIKE THESE FILMS, BUT I DO. OTHER REVIEWS CAN EXPLAIN, I JUST THINK HE IS SO NATURAL IN THE ROLE.

    not movie material

this was a good movie - but it really did seem more like a pilot for a tv series than a movie. Tom Selleck was as likable as ever & you could really take to his character. waiting for the next one!

    New passage for Tom Selleck

I didn't rate Tom Selleck much as an actor. In his earlier roles he always seemed a bit smug, superficial, and one dimensional. Not any more. His portrayal of the hard-edged, cynical, drink-ridden new Police Chief with a heart and oodles of integrity is simply wonderful. Love it. He brings such depth to this role and even though you might mistake it for a TV drama, it doesn't interfere with the enjoyment of the dark murky yet uplifting and sort of believable (although could only happen in America)storyline. He was made for this role, and after watching the film I had one of those eureka moments when you just know that no-one else other than Tom Selleck could would or should ever play Jesse Stone. Don't miss it. P.S. Does anyone out there want to start a Jesse Stone Fan Club?

    Great twist on detective movies

Having rented this, as a Tom Sellect fan from the 80s, when I started watching it I thought I had made a big mistake. I stayed with it to discover it was really rather excellent. Although the storyline has 'been around the block or two; it still managed to across as convincing. Tom managed to make this a rather touchingly beautiful movie. What really struck me was the music, rather hauntingly lovely piano as opposed the usual Hollywood style loud, often menacing soundtracks that normally accompany thier police/detective movies. I want to say it was gentle, but that sounds kind of a ridiculous thing to say about a cop film, amd yet, yes I did find it gentle. As a bonus, Tom is still a very attractive man!

    As good as the book

Tom Selleck was made for the part of Jesse Stone. I have now seen all 3 and each one is better than the last, well worth watching even if you have not read or heard of the books, edge of the seat stuff.
