This is a great film if youre even slightly interested in Religion
This film follows children in there daily lives. All the children are evangelical Christians and have been brought up with the bible at hand.
Personally this film made me physically sick and of course even stronger in my beliefs of atheism.
Although it was shocking at how parents allow there children to live I found it very interesting.
If anyone believes in an invisible man then you should consider watching this and even if you are an atheist then this is a still an interesting video.
Although it did make me, at times, sick to my stomach i have watched it several times and i do like it
This film sets out to portray Christianity in the same way that 'Supersize me' portrayed fast food or 'Bowling for columbine' portrayed firearms. With all these films you know what you are going to get before you even watch it. The chosen subject will be demonized and the film watched mainly by people who have a chip on their shoulder concerning the said subject. In this case atheists. It has been said that this film should be watched by anyone who has an interest in religion. However I would suggest that anyone who has an interest in truth would take the time to investigate it for themselves.
This film clearly shows how damaging religion can be when taken to it's logical conclusion. Whilst some may argue that mainstream religion comes nowhere near to what this film demonstrates, in reality all that is shown is a group of fundamentalists teaching their religion in the most effective manner that they can. If you are religious, and aren't doing the same, then surely these people should simply be viewed as being more devout than yourself ? Of course, those of us who do not share these beliefs, see this film as an example of brainwashing those who are most vulnerable and defenceless - an act that should be viewed as (at best) morally dubious, and in my mind is tantamount to child abuse - given the complete lack of credible evidence these beliefs are based on. Required watching for those with even a passing interest in religion.
I rented this movie as the title to me sound intreging, however after 20 minutes in, i reallised that as many who have written a review have mentioned, this is quite disturbing, and me, being a Christian myself find it sad. as someone said, religion is the root of evil, i would have to agree, but religion is not what TRUE Christianity is about, it is about having a personal intimate relationship with God. i myself found the movie disturbing and would not advise anyone looking for answers to watch this movie, it is not a accurate representation of what Jesus came to do for us or what TRUE Christianity is about.
Saw this on television only the other night, and I have to admit it was fascinating, although I did not see it to the end as it was on very late.
I did find it alarming that such young children are being told that they have to keep the devil from them - particularly harrowing is the fact that some of these children as young as 6 are crying their eyes out for being such 'bad' children and allowing the devil to get them!! At one point the main lady shouts out that Harry Potter is evil and that Warlords are not accepted and that in the real world he would have been sent to his death for his behaviour. You watch this documentary and find yourself wanting to see the children playing normally, watching a good fantasy/fairytale movie, drawing pictures of transformers or teletubbies - instead these children are practicing their preaching, drawing pictures of huge brown crosses and constantly worrying about keeping the devil at bay!!!
All that said, I do believe in everyone is entitled to their own views, but I just felt that the children were being brainwashed to some extent

How to teach children not to think and how gluttony isn't a sin...
Pepsi for breakfast for kids so they are awake during preaching might be a clue.

For the first twenty minutes this is indeed quite shocking, the way these children are indoctrinated into their right wing fundamentalist parents beliefs is disturbing (one viewer described it as abuse which I completely agree). It's sad to think of all the necessary experiences these children will miss out on and the social struggles they will face later in life. Unfortunately the film offers only one occasion where someone without an extreme fundamental belief challenges these lunatics. As several documentaries featuring Richard Dawkins has shown any reasonable debate with someone of this religious mentality is a pretty futile exercise, however any challenge from a more traditional Christian stand point would have been welcome. In all, 84minutes watching these nutters gets pretty labouring, can't say I really enjoyed it...
As I was watching this, all I could think of was, 'Wow, Jesus Camp sure does look like fun. All the kids do is stand around and cry.' (Watch it to see what I mean).
Unbelievable that the camp counselors don't see the irony in espousing supposedly 'Christian' beliefs whilst shouting 'this means war!' Exactly how blind and ignorant are you?
A scary film. This is why I'm glad I don't live in the American mid-West.

This docu on the evangelic church in america and the jesus camps they hold was quite unerving. I felt sorry for the kids being subjected to such ridiculous thoughts and on more than one occasion children fainted, or had other kinds of 'attacks' at the hands of these camps. They spoke about jesus as if he walked among us and the devil too and then added that harry potter was evil. I watched this as im doing research on different religions and this docu really opened my eyes on how religions can really brainwash you and in the end do more harm than good.
This documentary is tough, but essential, viewing. The adults in this film are truly loathsome, their acts tantamount to child abuse. I really pitied these incredible, intelligent children whose world-view has been utterly distorted by the ignorance, stupidity and political motivations of their elders. The only consolation is watching old footage of Ted Haggard in the light of the scandal that was to follow.
