This film suffers greatly from the voice over dubbing. Having seen the original with english subtitles I was hughly disappointed with this version as there are no audio options on the DVD. Only for die-hard fans of Jet Li who can't be bothered to read subtitles.
If you enjoy Kung Fu fighting the are some great fights in this film. Though to get the full effect of the film I strongly advise to locate a Mandarin copy with english subtitles.
The legend of Fong Sai Yuk - what a move. Jet Li rocks, Maggie Chung is cooler than ever and the film's mix of comedy and violence (there are some icky bits, bones through the elbow, that sort of thing) works a treat.
But why in the west are we subjected to a DVD film that you can ONLY watch dubbed. Aargh - look out for an original version with the full title - it's been on the telly, so it's out there somewhere...
Only 5 out of 7 for this reason.
I was looking forward to brushing up my Cantonese while watching this film. Instead, what I got was amateur (English) dubbing and an excrutiatingly embarassing 'Jet Li' film. What a let down.
If you cant get hold of the original Catonese version called Fong Sai Yuk (sometimes plays on Ch4 not Sky), that has English subtitles, then this is still a decent DVD to get.
Part 1 & 2 of this film are absolute classics. I've watched them many times over and in my opinion these, along with Fist of Legend (Jet Li's tribute to Bruce Lee, again look for for the subtitled version), are three of the best films Jet Li has to offer. The touch of comedy with martial arts especially in The Legend 1 & 2 is genius. Jet Li is comedic unlike the roles he's played in recent Western movies (Lethal Weapon 4, Kiss of Death...etc). But then swift and deadly when things get serious. Even if you're not a martial arts fan, most likely you'll find this film highly enjoyable.
If you thought the dubbing was criminal, you'll be sorely disappointed that the excellent theme song and background music has been editted out. But I'm sure if you're reading this most likely you haven't seen this movie before so nothing to worry about.
I'd give the subtitled version five stars but this three stars. Still, highly recommended stuff but look for the proper version if you want the full effect!

I am a big fan of martial arts films, but was disappointed with this effort from Jet Li. The action was as good as you would expect from Jet, but the story line and acting were so bad that even the brilliant fight scenes could not detract from the terrible story. Certainly not one of the better films of this genre around.
In this film although the martial arts displays are good, there seems to be something lacking. The poorly dubbed quality of the film does let things down. Some of Li's latest films just illustrate the problems with this example. Worth watching if a true Li fan though.
well if u like martial arts wort to wach
Sadly not one of Jet Li's best, I am a fan of martial arts movie's but this one did'nt quite do it for me, the fight scenes were not to bad but not enough to pull the film through.
A dvd i really enjoyed will all jet li moves
love Jet LI & this film says it all
