This absorbing documentary gives insight into the life and career of Hendrix through both interviews and rare performances. Included are sequences from the Monterey Pop, Woodstock, and Isle of Wight Music Festivals.

Few burned as brightly or were extinguished as quickly as Jimi Hendrix. Made just three years after his untimely death, this documentary is a crucial insight into the guitarist's roots and the tremors he sent through sixties pop with his electrifying blend of aggression, intensity and finesse. The live sequences, some culled from Woodstock and Monterey Pop, are priceless. But the interviews are also compelling, whether with his saxophone playing father Al, longtime girlfriend Fayne Pridgeon or fellow axe hero, PeteTownshend, who seemed to both fear and revere him. But let's not forget the Experience band members, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, who somehow managed to keep up with him.
I grew up with Purple Haze, Hey Joe, All Along the Watchtower etc., but I never saw the great man play live. This is the next best thing. As well one of the greatest guitarists of all time, this also shows what a thoroughly nice bloke he was - and how those who professed to love him sucked him dry. What a great shame. RIP Jimi.
