Very Good
By robertlondon (19 reviews) from London , 02 Apr 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I've just seen this at the LLGFF and would highly recommend it. I've never seen Skins, so I can't really make a comparison, but it's true that there are a lot of characters and storylines in this film, which is part of what makes it so much more interesting than just another coming out drama. In fact, if you are looking for a purely gay film, you might find this one too straight.
What I liked was that it was hard to see where any of the stories were going, a lot is left unsaid (forcing you to think) and the ups and downs were genuinely affecting. There were also plenty of light moments to compensate for the dark.- Was this review helpful to you?

(9)Engaging take on teen problems.
By Bazjohn (5 reviews) from Birmingham , 04 Apr 2013A good, well acted, film dealing with teenage problems. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it has an engaging storyline with lots of sub - plots. The gay aspects seemed to be lost at times, there was a lot of 'is he, isn't he?', which added to the realism.- Was this review helpful to you?

thoughtful effort
By dissenter (2 reviews) , 06 Jan 2013A very fair effort from both script and actors to conjure up the complexities and emotional turbulence of being a teen in today's society - in this case Iceland but could be the UK or anywhere in Europe. Time constraints - and the need to develop the plot quickly mean none of the characters are really explored in depth - and perhaps the director takes on too much 'teen confusion' - with sexuality, parental abandonment , searching for a lost father, andeast european immigration all being pushed into the plot when perhaps and exploration of just the central character and why he gets 'the jitters' would have been more satisfying. having said that, the film moves at a good pace, plenty of great scenes and well worth the time to sit and enjoy, and avoided the worst of the cliches involved with 'coming out' films.- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent Icelandic Film
By a customer , 03 Oct 2012I wouldn't necessarily say this is strictly a gay themed film. Part of the film follows the central plot involving two of the main characters (Gabriel and Markus) sharing a moment which leads Gabriel to question his sexuality and acting differently around his family and friends. There are subplots throughout the film involving Gabriel's friends, and the difficulties they are experiencing. Some reviewers say that these subplots are not necessary and distract from the main one, however I disagree. I feel that the other themes introduced emphasise that Gabriel is struggling with his own problems while trying to help his friends with theirs. The cast picked for the parts are very suited to their characters, and the execution of the storyline is very well done. It is easy to compare the film to the TV series 'Skins', however it does not feel as though it is copying or trying deliberately to be like it. Overall, I feel that everything about this film feels very current and young adults/teenagers will enjoy it.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Class Above
By Funlovinguy (62 reviews) from Derbyshire UK , 30 Jul 2012Beautifully directed-even though the story is basically a 'right of passage' movie.
It just shows-the direction of a film is everything,
Highly recommended- Was this review helpful to you?
