This film had excellent acting. As it was based on a true story, I liked the fact that it went on to tell us at the end, what happened to the characters afterwards.Great film!
As a boxing fan, this film initially took my interest when passing by it during a visit to the local video shop. At the time I didn't bother as the lack of name value of either lead actor gave me little confidence, but I thought I'd throw it on the list. Basically this is a good film, both leads do well and the film rolls along nicely. I do feel that Joe Louis, as second greatest fighter after Ali, should have had some more focus, as the director seemed to have greater interest in trying to portray Max as not a Nazi, or even friend of the party, but a poor German caught up in Hitler's control.
I'd like to think this was the case, but that's the problem with this film...sometimes the story is so fantastic it becomes unbelievable. 3 stars because of that, but one which I think will impress anyone with an interest in boxing, or would like to see what I'm sure many German's felt at the outbreak of WW2.
