Satch is a god to many people and rightly so. Unfortunately for me the shine has started to come off with recent albums and other players in his genre have superseded him (eg Vai/Petrucci). His new material - which is largely the basis for this show- does not inspire me and the early tunes which are included have been played better on other outings. Satch seems to be playing within himself rather than letting go. Nevertheless he is clearly enjoying himself and the band around him is undoubtedly accomplished, the drummer in particular standing out. Alas, Dave La Rue, whilst a fantastic Bass player, looks a little old and made me think of the embarrassment parents cause when they dance at a party. I would have preferred Stu Hamm who I think would have brought more va va voom to the performance. A polished dvd in terms of the sound/cameras etc. but its all just a little too comfortable for my personal taste.
