Brilliant film of Bach's music in rehearsal
By a customer from England , 14 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
If you like Bach's music, and enjoy seeing how some of the world's top performers bring it to life, you'll enjoy this. John Eliot Gardiner is second to none in period performances of baroque and classical music. Here you see him rehearse one of Bach's cantatas with a superb small choir and orchestra, with outstanding soloists. Rehearsal sequences are cut in with JEG and other performers talking about making music, and about this piece in particular. I was gripped from start to finish. I've rarely seen such a well edited and performed 'in rehearsal' film.- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)exciting and revealing
By John Southorn from Comrie Scotland , 19 Nov 2006This film captures the excitement of getting an exceptional performance of a rarely performed cantata realised by musicians who don't often work together. The infectious enthusiasm of JEG together with his deep knowledge are illuminating and fun- Was this review helpful to you?

A treat for Jeggy fans
By John Smith from Southampton , 07 Nov 2005Listening to great musicians talk about music is not always that thrilling and films of rehearsal are often studies of the conductor's back but this disc lets you hear Gardiner explain very accessibly how he thinks about the music aswell as letting you in on the real minutiae of the rehearsal. He communicates wonderfully both in interview and with his players and singers. Great for Bach fans, Jeggy fans, or just music fans.- Was this review helpful to you?
