Alot better than some similar discs!
By a customer from norwich, norfolk , 14 Jul 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
unlike the previous reviewer, I thought the quality was quite reasonable for the year (around 1959 I would think). Ray is in fine form and, although the picture shows age, the sound quality is remarkably good. Ray performs many favourites from his back catalogue as well as some unexpected numbers such as a cover of All The Way. His performing style is very OTT in places, but it's nice to have a 40 minute performance of this vintage and with Ray at the top of his game on DVD. Shame the 'concert' cuts off so abruptly at the end, though.
As a bonus we get three of Ray's hits in performances from the early to mid 80s. Considering the difference in years, his voice is still in good shape - although his dentist needs the sack for the horrendous dentures! Ray is performing here as part of a multi-artist show but he is obviously moved at the great reception he gets and has to repeat Cry. A nice addition in great quality.
In summary, Ray is pretty a much a love or hate figure but, for fans, this is a dream come true. Let's hope that Pickwick release similar items soon.- Was this review helpful to you?

You have to be a fan.
By William from Nottingham. , 15 Jun 2006The recording is taken from a T.V.show,and leaves a lot to be desired. You need to be a fan of Johnnie's to appreciate his talents under these conditions. I think if they had cleaned up the video before comitting it to D.V.D.it would have been more appealing...Disapointing.- Was this review helpful to you?
