What a disappointment!
By Raymond Griggs from Margate, England , 05 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Apart from a few incomplete songs this DVD is very poor value. Made up of clips from JC's old 8mm B & W home movies, it looks like the efforts of an opportunist who dredged the footage from JC's garbage as a pathetic attempt to make a few bucks from his devoted fans.
A massive con and totally worthless. Avoid, there are very much better tributes to the uncrowned king of country and western singers.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)For fans only
By pedroinlondon (4 reviews) from London , 01 Jun 2009This is one for true fans only. Robert Elfstrom, who also directed Gospel Road for Cash, joined the great man and his troupe on tour, in order to capture the man behind the Man in Black persona. This was back in 1969, way before his 94 revival by Rick Rubin of American Recordings, and his sound and lyrics were fairly different back then. Also the video transfer is of particular bad quality, I looks like it was done by pointing a vhs camera at a projected screen! A must for fans, a miss for new converts.- Was this review helpful to you?

All the warmth of an intimate home movie
By a customer from London , 09 Mar 2006This is an excellent collection of archive footage and live performances from the man in black. A real behind the scenes documentary, with all the warmth of a intimate home movie. We see Cash with June, his parents and many of his fans. Bob Dylan joins him half way through and they do a great version of 'One Too Many Mornings', which is one of the best duets I've heard. Of course I'm into broken hearts, dark poetic thoughts and voices rich in character. But if you are new to Johnny Cash, then go through his back catalogue and if you like what you here then rent this film and gain insight into the life of a great American storyteller.- Was this review helpful to you?

If you're a Cash Fan you'll LOVE this
By MUFFINMAN from woking , 24 Feb 2005Great documentary from 1969, which features lots of live performances, but also a rambling over-the-shoulder look at Johnny in the studio and on the road, including an intruiging episode where he visits his ole' homeplace in Arkansas. It's done in the D.A. Pennabaker style of the times, but it works.
If you're fan, this is fascinating stuff - and if you're just beginning to discover JC, you'll still find this well worth watching. Excellent!- Was this review helpful to you?
