Fans of Rowan Atkinson's rubbery-faced brand of physical comedy will know what to expect from this unassuming slice of slapstick. Based on a character portrayed by the Mr Bean star in a series of Barclaycard adverts, it utilises a very British strain of schoolboy humour to send up another home-grown institution — the James Bond-style super-spy. Atkinson plays the titular hero, an enthusiastic but bumbling intelligence agent appointed to track down those behind the theft of the crown jewels. In a performance comprised largely of facial tics, childish pratfalls and poo jokes, Atkinson manages to bring the simplistic screenplay to life —and even gets the girl (Natalie Imbruglia) in the process. This dvd of the film with rowan atkinson as johnny english is very funny. The film is full of hilarious jokes and action from start to finish. the classic moments in the film are when Johnny has a fight with himself, accidentally shoots a secretary with his 'pen', gets his tie caught up in the conveyor belt when eating Sushi and having the wrong video shown as Pascal Sauvage prepares to rule the country. My daughter's favourite part was when johnny sings to abba in the bathroom scene.
well worth renting out.
Rowan Atkinson can only play the same inept character so many times and keep it interesting - That limit has been breached.
