Made three years after the phenomenal success of The Jolson Story, this sequel suffers from the fact that the entertainer's later life was nowhere near as interesting as his rise to fame. Larry Parks produces another remarkable impersonation (backed by Jolson's own singing voice), particularly relishing the gag in which Parks (playing Jolson) meets Parks (playing himself) to discuss making the first film. Barbara Hale is sweet as Ellen Clark, Jolson's second wife, who nursed him through the fever contracted while entertaining the troops. Classic songs abound, but there's too little going on to give this anything but nostalgia value.
Excellent, kept us entertained for several hours - we were singing the songs for days afterwards. Good honest family film, highly recommended.
