There is just not enough material to squander on this DVD so they give a short potted history of Pre/post punk, and also the contribution from the experts is fairly poor. There is just too little material for Joy Division and thanks goodness that 'Control' is around to keep their music and story alive. Can't see how anyone could hold there interest for this poor review of one of the greatest bands ever.
There's been a lot of interest of late in the legacy of Joy Division with 'Control' and the new cinematic release of Grant Gee's documentary.
Unfortunately this one's worth giving the wide berth. Made in 2006 this is a talking heads style doc, all of whom involved have third division credentials (no band members, no musical contemporaries, no Tony Wilson! not even Paul Morley!etc). With little credibility there is the usual hyperbole, adjectives, pub-theories & scatter gun opinions on a potted history we've all heard before. Into which is Interspliced poor quality second generation footage from 'Here are the young men', and 'So it goes'.
