We miss the talented Judy !
By www.rareprint.org from London UK , 21 Jul 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
Lorna Luft wrote a very unbiased record of her mother's life. Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis as the younger and older Judy -were INCREDIBLE and should both get more awards for their performances. A lot of books and films been done, but I feel this is the best one I have seen and will be watching again. By www.rareprint.org- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)A wonderful film
By eddiem (12 reviews) from attleborough , 28 May 2010At first I thought it was going to be a made for TV film, with the voiceover and all but, my God, it became a beautiful tribute to the star. Excellent performances from the entire cast - I was completely captivated - so much so that I was moved to tears twice during the film. Plus if you didn't know it before, Judy Garland's voice is incredible - and full praise to director for including the original recordings and also to the actresses for their interpretation.- Was this review helpful to you?

5 Stars for Judy Davis
By a customer from Surrey , 23 Apr 2008Tour de force performance from Judy Davis who shone as the tragic diva, especially in her portrayal of Garland's latter years. The actress who played the young Garland gave a similarly polished performance.
Bit of a biased story line as seen from Lorna Luft 's eye, mainly revolving around her childhood which is understandable as it was based on her recollections. Would have been interested in seeing more about Liza Minelli in the overall picture (the girl who played her had an uncanny resemblance) and the suggested homosexuality of Garland's father, briefly hinted at then brushed aside, would have made for some interesting viewing.
Support cast was good, except the wooden Hugh Laurie, who played Vincent Minelli with no depth or talent (how did he ever get on?).- Was this review helpful to you?

Judy fans won't be able to stop themselves from watching.
By Stuart Wood from Camberwell, England , 21 Dec 2005It could have been a catastrophe , the 'for tv' bio pic, that is, not Judy's life!! We all know about that! Or do we...This bio pic, made for television is much better than you think it's going to be. Based on daughter, Lorna Luft's account, the production values are high and the detail, love and careful research are visable. Aware of the almost religious status Judy has to some, the production team obviously held a great affection for the subject and the fact that the original recordings have been used for the musical numbers allows a real appreciation of Garlands talent. The film is brought to life by the incredible portrayal by Judy Davis who doesn't pastiche Garland or do her as a drag act but seems to truly get inside her skin. The result is pleasing and hard to fault. we did laugh out loud, however, when she was in the fat suit. Enjoy!- Was this review helpful to you?

One that you shouldn't let get away
By RJNeb2 (924 reviews) from London , 09 Oct 2005It's hard to get these Hollywood biopics right - sometimes they can't help but come across as corny excuses for name-dropping - and this account of Garland's fraught life certainly strays into that territory. But keeping it firmly on track is Davis' mesmerising performance. She truly inhabits the role of this damaged creature, and makes some very courageous, decidedly unglamorous decisions in her portrayal. (Blanchard is equally good as the younger incarnation.) And the film's other ace up its sleeve is of course Garland's musical legacy, which is wisely give plenty of screen time.- Was this review helpful to you?
