Director Richard Lester was much more at home with those cheeky Beatles movies, but he does his best with this solemn thriller about a luxury liner threatened by a mad bomber. It's the superb editing that carries the day, creating the required amount of tension. Unfortunately, female lead Shirley Knight is given little to do, existing simply as a romantic footnote to Omar Sharif's libido, and in the male-heavy cast, Richard Harris, David Hemmings and Anthony Hopkins provide the brains and brawn to save some pretty vacuous lives.

A Forgotten Gem
This is one of those films that as soon as you start to watch it, you will instantly be whisked back in a flurry of nostalgia to the days o being able to stay up on a saturday night, and just after match of the day on bbc1, there was always a film. This was such a film, with a superb cast,it is a taut and well directed thriller with touches of typically british humour thrown in for good measure. This suprises the viewer throughout through the sheer quality of material and above all, the convincing performances from the leads. All in all, a bit dated, but well worth looking at.

Top of Genre Disaster Thriller
If you are a fan of the disaster movies of the 70's and 80's, such as 'The Towering Inferno', ' The Poseidon Adventure' and the like, you will love this! It is, to my mind, superior in almost every respect to the classics mentioned. The plot is engaging and the thrills directed with such aplomb that you feel the claustrophobia as Richard Harris defuses one of several bombs on a Cruise Ship. The cleverly twisting plot goes in two separate directions as Harris tries to defuse the bombs in terrible weather on board the liner and Hopkins goes after the bomb maker in London. A really enjoyable slice of nostalgia that is admittedly dated but still crackingly good. Well worth all five stars and a fine Sunday afternoon watch for anyone into the Disaster Movie genre.

Vinnie Jones rumoured for X-Men spin-off

Footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones may star in his own X-Men spin-off, it emerged this week. Jones played the vicious Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand and rumours have begun circulating that his character may have a whole movie to himself soon, the Guardian reports.
