True Story
By Pinkbaglady (9 reviews) from Morden , 10 Aug 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a really lovely film based on the life of 2 women who cooked their way through hundreds of French recipes; one while writing the cookbook and the other writing a blog about the cookbook 50 years later - and about their marriages and trying to make the most of what life handed them. Very inspirational.- Was this review helpful to you?

(339)Charming and lifts your spirits!
By Yannie (7 reviews) , 24 Feb 2013This is such a sweet, sweet movie. The story surrounds celebrity chef, Julia Child and a blog started by a girl who vowed to complete Child's cookbook of 524 recipes in just a year.
This movie has a great cast, great writing and a genuinely inspiring story. Watch this when you're feeling like you need your spirit uplifted. It's such a humble treat. The CD I received had all sorts of special features and commentary on it, worth watching if you have spare time.- Was this review helpful to you?

Funny and Gentle
By a customer , 19 Feb 2013I loved the film especially as its based on a true story. No real drama and story line but not to its detriment. It kept me laughing and interested. Fantastic characterisation by Meryll Streep and good supporting actors.- Was this review helpful to you?

Lovely foodie film about Julia Child & her French cuisine cookbook for Americans
By twosoddingcats (211 reviews) from Kingston-upon-Thames , 30 Dec 2012Streep gives an excellent portrayal of Julia Childs unfortunately, Julia had a voice that will grate after a while and annoying mannerisms. As a bored diplomats wife in Paris she decides to take cooking lessons, which later leads onto a French cuisine cookbook for American woman which she collaborated on with two other women. Meanwhile, in Queens in 2002, Julie (Amy Adams) is looking for meaning in her life as she's about to turn 30 and decides to cook the entire Julia Child cookbook in a year and blog about it. What is a shame here is that the end of the film is rushed and Julie hears from a journalist that Julia Childs thinks her blog is disrespectful and taking the mickey, but we never find out if Julia had read her blog and just based her opionions on what she had heard. This is a shame, as Julia Child died not long after Julie got a book deal based on her blog. We shall never know if Julia respected Julie as much as Julie worshipped Julia.- Was this review helpful to you?
