Alot more than just amy adams
By a customer from Monmouth, UK , 25 Jul 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
This film is a wonderful rarity - a moving indie film about smalltown life that doesnt revolve around the destruction of harmony by an 'outsider'. The writing, directing and performances are so intelligently executed. It follows the story of a dealer in 'outsider' art going to meet her north carolina in-laws. her artistic background means that whilst being a city slicker, she is used to observing what she doesnt understand and instead of seeing the smalltown way of life as 'wrong' and city 'right' and the eventual corruption of smalltown life to city complexities as we would expect from such a film, the art dealer, madeleine invites us to stand by her as she absorbs the dynamics of the characters without trying to change their ways - without trying to alter the simultaneous pain and harmony that resides in each of them. brilliant film, brilliantly acted. amy adams deserved the oscar nomination and the film deserves similar acclaim for being brave enough to try and show the emotional complexities of a life that we see as out of fashion and backward in many ways.- Was this review helpful to you?

(103)It was a film
By a customer , 13 Jul 2011This gets one star, because technically it was a film. That was its redeeming feature meaning I got to sit for more than an hour and a half experiencing it.- Was this review helpful to you?

urm. what was it about?
By phee (6 reviews) , 10 Jul 2011I have come to review this film and can not remember any of it! I take it that this film is not very good. Maybe I have been zapped in the eyes by Will Smith. (the actor not comedian who is much funnier and slightly cuter in a chubby posh way).
I know I watched it. But.............
Watch if you want to forget part of your life.- Was this review helpful to you?

Too strange for reality
By a customer , 27 Apr 2011Strange film. A stranger in a small town spells trouble. This trouble is different, however, and it works for the better rather than the usual opposite. But for me it was too strange to be believable.- Was this review helpful to you?
