THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK is director Steven Spielberg's sequel to his original dinosaur thriller. Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) returns for more dino-horror when, four years after the disaster at the would-be amusement park, another expedition is mounted by millionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough). To document the natural behavior of the beasts at a mysterious Site B, Hammond sends a team comprising Malcolm; Malcolm's girlfriend, paleontologist Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore); and a wildlife videographer (Vince Vaughn). They face adversity in the form of a less-than-scrupulous big-game hunter (Pete Postlethwaite) and, of course, the terrible lizards themselves. The film is loosely based on Michael Crichton's novel THE LOST WORLD, which was named after the 1912 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel of the same name. Spielberg proved his determination to alternate making socially conscious films with directing movies of sheer entertainment value; his prior film to THE LOST WORLD was SCHINDLER'S LIST, and he followed the dinosaur adventure with AMISTAD.

There's another island full of genetically created dinosaurs in this exuberantly calculated sequel to Jurassic Park. But while the cloned package does elicit a nagging sense of déjà vu, such feelings never get in the way of the overpowering excitement and spectacular special effects, which are served up in deliciously scary dollops. With Richard Attenborough and Jeff Goldblum on hand once more to test the balance of nature off the coast of Costa Rica, director Steven Spielberg ensures his epic thrill-ride runs smoothly along well-oiled tracks. Even though the final third of the movie, where the T-Rex rampages through San Diego, seems slightly tacked on, events move at such a breakneck pace there's barely time to think about anything other than screaming in amazement.
The special effects are to be wondered at, as is the fact that the script is cloned from the oldest and most familiar elements of monster movies; this is a dinosaur about dinosaurs.
the lost world is a superb film, with a brilliant cast of jeff goldblum, peter postlewaite and julianne moore. there is more tension in this film eg. the scene where the 2 t-rex's attack the mobile home, and also when the T-rex enters the tent.
there is also quite a bit of comedy in this film, which is very subtly done.
A t- rex is captured and taken to a zoo in san diego, where mayhem ensues.
well worth renting out, but younger children may find this film a bit on the frightening side.
I remember seeing this a the cinema and thinking it was OK, but not a good as the first film and my thoughts haven't changed. Plot-wise it's like King-Kong, but with a T-rex rather than a giant ape. Plenty of excitement, but nothing too memorable.
However I rented this for my 5 year old son and he really enjoyed it. He's been a fan of the first film for the last year, and has been asking to see this for ages.
So I'd rate it 2/5 and he'd rate it 4/5, so lets give it 3/5 overall.
