Released in 1993, the time-travel farce Les Visiteurs became the highest grossing home-grown movie in French cinema history. The long delayed English-language remake from writer/director Jean-Marie Poiré (here credited as Jean-Marie Gaubert) utilises the same basic plot but relocates the action to America and increases the toilet-humour content at the expense of the original's rough charm. Tricked into poisoning his betrothed (Christina Applegate), 12th-century French nobleman Thibault Malfete (Jean Reno) gets a wizard (Malcolm McDowell) to concoct a potion to send him back in time to avert the tragedy. But Thibault and his idiot squire André (Christian Clavier) end up in modern-day Chicago where they meet Thibault's descendant Julia (Applegate again) and attempt to make sense of the modern world — an obvious cue for culture-clash gags involving blenders, television and horses on public transport. A limp re-tread of the spirited original, this definitely loses something in the translation.

A remake of the 1993 French movie Les Visiteurs that does not live up to the boisterous comedy of the original.
I acually quite enjoyed this film (I have not seen the original French version). It was a bit of a chick-flick and the story-line was totally predictable, but was quite funny at times and has a 'feel good factor'. A good film to rent when you don't want to concentrate too hard!
While the original film Les Visituers (SP?) was a tour de force of French farce this film just seems a bit embarassing. This is suprising as it is essentially the same film!
Jeno Reno plays a Knight who is transported along with is faithful but dirty servant to modern day Chicago. The film entails their adventures with such everyday items as the toliet and light switches.
This film is ok if you are someone who likes lesser comedies like myself but its still not as fun as the original or something by Adam Sandler.
This must be the low point of Jean Reno's career. This re-make of a funny French film has had the typical Hollywood treatment; it is utterly predictable and all the characters are shallow.
If you must have a pretty woman to look at, go and download a picture of Christina Applegate.
Watch the original French film, 'Les Visiteurs', in preference to this one unless you can't read subtitles or understand French.
I give it 2 stars because fortunately or unfortunately i've watched the Original 'Les Visiteurs' first and i thought this one would be like a second part of 'Les Visiteurs' but it isn't...It is simply an american version of the French version. I must say that the French version is a lot funnier.
Apart from that it's a good movie that features time travel. it's a bit like a fairy tale.

Having watched both films and nearly died laughing at both. I personally think that both films have plus and negative points. The comedy is more smoother and perhaps funnier in Les Visiteurs but having to read those damned subtitles doesn't help. Just Visiting has been updated slightly and I have to admit I still have the occassional chuckle thinking about the toilet and bathroom scenes. Well worth renting both.
A bit cliched and overacted but harmless enough.ok if you have nothing else to watch.
The story has been quickly wrapped up to make space to the fun of the film. This guy from the middle age time kills his future wife by accident and wants to time travel back to make it right. However the wizard makes a mistake and send him and his servant in the future. There he meets his descendant and the 20th century.
This film is full of fun. It is the remake of the French film "Les Visiteurs" with the same actors.
My son watched this half way through, then decided to turn it off becuase there was toomuch swearing. Not a family film.
the 3 stars are for Jean Reno . the story is utterly predictable and not funny .
A really funny comedy that will have you in stitches if you're easily pleased. Jean Reno is brilliant in it. A good film to watch to ponder over how things have changed from the 12th century to present day (all the things we take for granted!).
