I'd Give It A Higher Rating If I Could
By a customer from Salisbury, England , 14 Mar 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
This film is pretty much perfect. I cant fault it. Its utterly romantic; full of delicious angst; wonderfully acted and scripted and has a total naturalness that makes you feel youre listening to a story from one of your own family. This must be the best coming out film ever made. Its an intelligent film, and thats pretty rare these days.
Every single character in this film is wonderful portrayed with total honesty. Even the setting is quite lovely in the garden that agricultural students Cedric and Laurent care for. There are no gay bars; no drugs; no leather or bears. Theres just people living ordinary, good lives.
And best of all this are are the gorgeous Cedric and Laurent. I defy you to watch this film and not believe that these two men are deeply in love. And its so much more than that. They work together; they play together and its so natural and sexy and lovely to watch. Its the most positive depiction of a gay relationship Ive seen in any movie.
The level of angst this film builds up is due to this lovely relationship. Youll be desperate for it all to work out, but everything seems conspiring against it.
This is now my number one recommendation for a great gay movie. Do not miss this one. You'll want to buy it as well.- Was this review helpful to you?

The French 'Beautiful Thing"
By Xcjohnny (3 reviews) , 18 Apr 2012Of it's genre this is a beautifully acted film and it was a very pleasant surprise being way down my rental list. The characters were utterly believable and I even found towards the end that I was so in tune with them that I didn't need to read the French subtitles. If you liked 'Beautiful Thing' then this is for you.- Was this review helpful to you?

Lovely boys
By hergerbabe (18 reviews) , 10 Aug 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Definitely a French film, if you see what I mean, there's a sort of weirdly unrefined feel to a lot of French films I find. But the story itself is lovely and tragic and yet hopeful, especially at the end. You feel for Laurent having to hide, even if he is a bit of a dick, and Cédric of course in a different way as he's so forthright. But still a lovely romance on a par with Shelter :)- Was this review helpful to you?
