Hollywood, desperately looking for new variations on the mismatched-cops scenario, briefly lit upon the concept of the buddy-doggy movie. Fortunately for non-dog lovers, it was a genre that proved to have as much staying power as some Christmas puppies. This one, produced in the same year as the Tom Hanks comedy Turner and Hooch, has James Belushi as the detective who is reluctantly partnered with a surly canine in a bid to crack a drug-smuggling ring. Belushi is as affable as ever, but even he looks a little embarrassed by the affair, particularly the mawkish ending.

As good today as it was yesterday!

I saw this movie when it came out, then rushed out to but the 'video' when it was released, but that got lost over the years. I have been searching for it ever since the 2nd one was released (K911, even on video), but no-one could help me. My daughter watched the 2nd one with me and loved it, so I wanted her to see the first one ( the classic ), and YES she loved it too. I was amazed it still gave me that warm feeling it did about 15 yrs ago, as tastes change, and that 'oh now I must go train my dog to do that'.

A great film, although Jerry Lee (the dog) takes his time to make his entrance, but what an entrance! Very funny and James Belushi is great. From what i can remember this film came out around the same time as Turner & Hootch, again a great film, but that got all the credit, because it starred Tom Hanks. This film is a must if your an animal lover and well if your not, you can't help but laugh at the humour and what a clever dog!

    outgunned by a German Shepherd!

I sit here and glance at my shepherd and thank anything or anyone that he is not Jerry Lewis! This intellectual, skilled, heavily attituded, lead stealing animal leaves Belushi, well coming second.

The plot is acceptable, the growing relationship between man and beast is sincere and the antics hysterical. You have to be a dog lover to admire the skill level of this trained animal. Can leave you wanting a German Shepherd or avoiding them at all cost, who wants an animal more funny and intellectual than oneself?
