Something of a cheap offering, Kalifornia is useful as a reference point for the developing career of its leading actor, Brad Pitt. Whilst his role as serial killer Early becomes progressively sillier as the film reaches its climax, the character's violent development helps understand Pitt's later choices of roles in Se7en and Fight Club.
Certainly, Kalifornia is part of Pitt's canon before he found using his notable appearance to more glamourous effect in his most recent films, from The Mexican onwards.
