  • Good film... but not to everyones liking

The basic premise of the film is that the grandparents of Maria’s flatmate, who lives upstairs, are worshippers in the occult. Various small strange things happen after this séance, the cat gets possessed by a demon and things really take a turn for the worse. Without giving the movie away, the film really picks up after the cat becomes truly becomes possessed as described in the movie description.

The film has a rigid structure and fluently flows from start to finish. Whilst being a foreign film you would expect some cultural distance from an English audience. Luckily this is one film that does not undergo from this typically devastating flaw. You watch the movie and you get it.

Saying this however, several parts of the film are somewhat awkward to watch. Some of the acting is awfully raw and moderately undefined. The subtitles are a bit misleading as they generally do not match what the actors are saying in this Danish film. This happily does not have an effect on the plot, in all likelihood the subtitles are been tailored and manipulated to make the subtitles effortless to read.

Parts seem heavily clichéd and have been completed in other films to a higher standard. Insert your standard shock, physiological, thriller elements into the mix with very few surprises and you have Kat. The film will not a benchmark for any future movies but it does provide a fresh take on the sub genre that has been littered with similar films. Kat’s greatest strength is the fact it carries elements out in a slightly different order. It breaks the norm in the delivery of the horror and thriller elements. It mixes the delivery of the story in a similar way to how different people like their expensive coffee. It may not be to everyone’s liking but at least it’s fresh.

Kat is entertaining; if you can overlook those insignificant annoyances. By that I mean this film is not for everyone, the raw feel of the acting whilst generally good still suffers in places. Combine this with a good premise and plot whilst not ground breaking in anyway; it is still watchable and enjoyable. This movie is not going to change your life and chances are you are not going to care for the story after watching. It is still a solid performance which to its own merit. It Delivers.

This was an interesting movie, I was quite gripped to the screen and although it has some loose ends now and again, it's worth watching. The acting comes across as slightly improvised which is a plus for going along with the plot.

    Worth watching.
