Katyn-1940 menslaughter of Polish officers by Soviets.
By a customer from Sheffield , 07 May 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
Watch this movie to see what totalitarism was in The Soviet Union during the WW2. The movie depicts a true story of thousands of Polish officers captured and shot dead in secret by Soviets in 1940. Very tragic and touching scenes.- Was this review helpful to you?

ThursdayNight Film
By Ntassoolla (17 reviews) , 20 May 2011The film does not give the historical background from 1918-21. Nor indicate where the sympathies of the Polish military lay.
It does avoid the easy route of moral outrage and victimhood. It interprets the event through the eyes of those who had to watch while helpless.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Great Lie
By Oldbloke (308 reviews) from Sidmouth , 10 Mar 2011In 1940 the Germans drove what was left of the defeated Polish army into the hands of the Russians. As part of a plan to emasculate Polish leadership, the Russians interned and then executed the entire officer class and spent the next fifty years persuading the world that the Nazis had done it. Told from the perspective of wives, sisters and daughters at home waiting for news, this is the story of both the crime and the lie. It's a restrained and intelligent film that falls short of greatness I suspect because Wajda doesn't give us any characters to really invest in. Worth seeing though.- Was this review helpful to you?

A little known story
By a customer from Durham , 02 Feb 2011I knew a little about the Katyn massacre but this film really brought it all alive. The Big Lie was very well portrayed and the whole atmosphere of the movie made me want to watch it again. The interview with the man who made the film was also very worth watching in spite of the sub-titles. I may even buy the DVD.- Was this review helpful to you?

Katyn - The truth
By a customer from London , 28 Dec 2010A harrowing and thought provoking film showing the Polish nation crushed by the twin evils of fascism and communism and the brave Poles trying to make sure the world knows the truth about what happened in Katyn forest. A great must watch film.- Was this review helpful to you?
