Delightful, beautiful, charming and yet disturbing.

This is one of those lovely British films that evoke the best of Ealing type comedies. A gentle comedy about a vicar, his wife, his daughter, his son and their lovely sweet charming life in a delightful country village. That's what it feels like, except the daughter is a nymphomaniac, the wife is trying to have an affair and the vicar is played by Rowan Atkinson...so it's a wacky comedy then, except it isn't. Due to a wonderful restrained performance by Atkinson and a beautifully authentic performance by Kirsten Scot-Thomas, the film remains 'real'. Then enters Maggie Smith a a Mary Poppins type, who is wonderful, as is Maggie Smith..she has one little character flaw though, she 's a mass murderer...This is a lovely film , with superb performances a witty script, but somehow it's amorality leaves one a disturbing taste.

    Definately recommend it

'Keeping Mum' is one of those films you would never think of putting on the top of your rental list and that is why so many people will miss out. When I watched this film I wasn't expecting much but I was greatly entertained! Atkinson puts in a fantastic performance, it is almost as if the part was written for him and Swayze adds irristable charm to the film! With not much swearing or horrendous violence this is a nice easy going film to watch and chill out to. I would definately recommend it, my girlfriend gave it the thumbs up just for Swayze in the thong!

    Loved this

A well directed black comedy with murderous undertones.

Rowan Atkinson the well meaning vicar seems oblivious to the goings on in his household and the fact that his wife has to look elsewhere for attention.

Enter the housekeeper who fixes everything in her own unique way. Although rather predictable I wasn’t prepared for the ending.

    Good from start to finish.

    Mum's The Word

This isn't one of the all-time greats, but if you just want to switch off and have fun, I'd recommend giving this a try. Maggie Smith is good in whatever she turns her hand to, and her portrayal of a sweet old housekeeper with an - er - 'unusual' outlook on life is finely judged.

Rowan Atkinson plays the mild, absent-minded vicar to a tee, although he's less convincing once he's awakened to the 'sins of the flesh'. There are no startling plot twists, but there are several one-liners that had me laughing out loud. Kristen Scott Thomas gets the pulses racing without ever taking off more than a cardigan.

I came away from watching this feeling generally happier - and what more could you ask from a feel-good film?

    Cosy black comedy

In the wrong mood, this film could be exasperating: glittering cast doing their Heritage quirky-Brit shtick.

But actually it's rather fun: Kristin Scott Thomas, always a delight to behold, adds a few f*cks to her vocabulary and brings her inimitable style; Rowan Atkinson pleasantly underplays his '4 Weddings and a Funeral' character; and Maggie Smith does her usual thing which, in this case, is amusing enough.

It's all in the style of 'Kind Heart and Coronets' and 'Arsenic and Old Lace', or so it would like to believe: it's not quite of that calibre, but in its way it's not at all bad - IF you're in the right mood.

    Blackest comedy

When I saw the title I wasnt expecting much. Especially as my mum got it out for mother's day, and she only selects films on their titles, (Eg. Dreamcatcher... a film a bout something native american!) but this one had me absolutly wetting myself with laughter and chortling for days about the ironies in the film. When I watched it again recently I was still finding it hilarious.

Maybe I have sick sense of humour tho!

If you liked this, you'd probably like The Last Supper with Cameron Diaz

Excellent little film, that keeps you thoroughly entertained throughout .. Director, Niall Johnson, deserves credit for keeping the plot running along nicely ..

Great acting performances from the very cute Kristin Scott Thomas, and the ever-reliable Maggie Smith.

the vicar of Dibley meets the Lady Killers at Midsomer village

I really enjoyed watching this Murders without the Mystery Movie

Take the vicar of Dibley with a sex change put him in a village like Midsomer (Little Wallop) and take a script from the Old Ealing studios 'Lady Killers' Select some very good character actors and you have the makings of a very enjoyable English Black Comedy.

Good entertaining film,Well worth watching with a nice beginning great middlle and a superb finish.

    Comedy at its best

Rowan Atkinson plays a great dumb vicar, in this barking comedy. Not laugh out loud stuff but very entertaining. Kristin ST is very good, but Maggie steals the show.
