Clint Eastwood and Telly Savalas head the cast of this enjoyable, if occasionally slightly silly, adventure yarn about a group of maverick GIs who decide to fill a lull in the Second World War by knocking off a hoard of German bullion in occupied France. Savalas and the eccentric Donald Sutherland set to their assignment with gusto, while Eastwood remains as cool as ever as half of Europe is blowing up around him. This was never a film destined to win prestige prizes at foreign film festivals. Despite many flaws, though, it's not dull by any means.

I first saw this movie at the cinema when it first came out (yes I'm that old but I don't look it) Everything about this film is class - the plot - the script - the acting - the locations - its all top drawer and popping out of that top drawer is Donald Sutherland as Oddball, if you want to watch a classic movie then watch this - you won't be disappointed.
A very good war film with loads of stars with a good story line...very light hearted but a very good film.
Legendary screenwriter Abby Mann, who penned the 1961 classic Judgement At Nuremberg, has died. Mann, who was also nominated for an Oscar for 1965's Ship of Fools, was a prolific television and film writer.
