It started as a routine mission. Escort hardened terrorist and ISI agent Igbal Ansari from Chandanghad to Mumbai. It ended as a nightmare. The first escort team of police officers was ambushed midway, blown to bits. But a brave officer managed to ensure that Ansari did not escape. Now another team was being sent to do this job from Mumbai. DCP Anant Shrivastav "The Professor". A Police officer in the winter of his career, a failure in the establishment's eyes and more important, in his own. Now on the eve of his daughter's wedding, Shrivastav was being given this crucial assignment. This was his one last chance to do something. Make a difference. Sr. Inspector Shekhar Sachdev. Street-smart, brave, but rotten to the core. An unscrupulous, amoral and self-serving officer for whom the line between good and bad, right and wrong had blurred a long time ago. He didn't want part pf any suicide mission, but he had no choice. Forced on the mission, he made his own agenda. Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte. a young middle class rookie office on his first serious assignment, full of ambitions, hopes, values, good intentions. All about to be shattered. He was going to find out the hard way that there was a massive difference between training school and the ground reality of the harsh, corrupt and violent world out there. You can't change the street, but the street will definitely change you. Three officers accompanied by two constables, now given the charge of escorting a dreaded terrorist, and a crucial witness in the case against him, from Chandanghad to Mumbai. A group of men all fighting their own demons who were going to confront some very, very real ones. Because someone out there didn't want them to get to Mumbai. A nameless, faceless enemy who lurked in the shadows, who was always one step ahead of them. An enemy who would do all he could to stop them. Whatever it took. A three day assignment would become a never-ending nightmare. An overnight journey would become a journey into a dark world of brutality, corruption, conspiracies and terror, a journey into fear....

Having played a cop in Gangaajal and Zameen, Ajay Devgan finds himself on the wrong side of the law in Rajkumar Santoshi's “prisoner and escort” thriller. Recaptured after a failed rescue attempt, the subcontinent's most wanted terrorist is guarded on the trip from Chandanghad to Mumbai by a team of lawmen — one of whom has a deadly mission to fulfil. The detectives are all caricatures, with Amitabh Bachchan's underachieving veteran being balanced by Akshay Kumar's short-fused maverick and Tusshar Kapoor's idealistic rookie. However, the performances are bullish and polished, right down to Aishwarya Rai, who appears in an undemanding supporting role.

    A must-see gem of a movie!

I was somewhat worried about this movie being a police drama because Bollywood's handling of them is usually so uninvolving, however my fears were put to rest over the course of three delightful hours. The narrative sags occasionally, and I found my attention wavering but if you are patient and allow the story to unfold, you will not be disappointed. The story initially revolves around 5 police officers and the effort has been made to flesh out each character, thereby humanising each one so that the audience can actually relate to their lives. The actors' performances are adequate overall, with Mr Bachchan's a cut above the rest as to be expected. The music is very good, there are only 3 songs afterall but 'Kaisa Jadoo' is simply divine and has been resonating in my head ever since. The ending of the movie is terrific, and as the credits roll I guarantee you will feel uplifted, with a renewed faith in the potential for good that we all carry within us.

    Discover this forgotten cop movie...

I wonder why this movie didn't do as well as I think it should have done at the Box Office. Amitabh Bachchan shows that he still has the edge that he had 30 years ago in films such as 'Sholay' and 'Don'; his performance is electric. Akshay is good in his role of happy-go-lucky cop and Tussar is passable. Aishwarya performs well for her role too. The storyline is above-average, with some good twists that help to drive the narrative. The songs are also worthy of mentioning, but the unfortunate cut of most of them can test the patience of some viewers who enjoy the breaks; choreography of the songs isn't all that impressive either. Overall, I would rate this emotional cop drama quite high. Watch it for all the reasons!
