KHARTOUM (1966) is a good solid movie. It certainly has a very sweeping and epic feel to it, like LAWRENCE OF ARABIA or CROMWELL does. Charlton Heston is OK as Gordon, not really convincing as an Englishman. But LAURENCE OLIVIER is unintentionally hilarious as a 'blacked-up' Arab. The DVD has the Overture, an Intermission and End Music put on, but for a film that is only 2 hours in length, it doesn't deserve this epic treatment. Not in the same class as David Lean.
