A very Thought Provoking Movie - Must See!!!!
By Ily (5 reviews) from Lancashire , 06 Jun 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
I don't usually write many reviews on this website, but felt obliged to do so on this occassion. This DVD version, (I assume) will come heavily edited due to the contreversial nature of the film, which is why I feel very lucky to have watched this movie in Dubai, prior to its UK DVD reslease.
The overall theme is simple: 'its about the knock on effect, the attacks off 9/11 had on Muslim communities all accross the world'. However, heres the interesting part: the movie runs many different stories in various countries (Pakistan/USA/Afghanistan/UK), all in parallel, which subsequently all link in some way, towards the end of the movie. Not only that, it also tackles, other various issues usually taboo in Pakistani cinema and TV, i.e. marriage outside of religion, to what extent is music excepted Islamically, sterotypes/perception on Muslims from Non-Muslims. All this comibined with superb acting and a brilliant soundtrack, make this Movie thoroughly enjoyable.
You have to bear in mind, this is a reasonably slow paced movie. However, it is beautifully shot, with innovative camera angles, & great choreography which incorporates very nicely with the background score. But the beauty of the movie is that it leaves all the questions, open to the viewers. It gives various accounts and different sides to various subject matters and leaves the audience to make their own mind up.
Khuda Lay liye, is not your typical all dancing, all singing Bollywood Film. Its a real film, about real situations - about normal everyday people in the real world, who are faced with situations out of their control!! I strongly reccomend this Movie .. it has both Entertainment & Educational value combined !!!!- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 07 Apr 2012This film is close to the worst I've seen. I too was taken in by the rave reviews which could only have been writen with a view to deceive. A plot to make you cringe, terrible acting and a very poor soundtrack. Definitely not in the same league as 'My Name is Khan'.- Was this review helpful to you?

Wooden......
By a customer from Brighton , 01 Mar 2009rented due to the rave reviews............ seriously don't bother. Like a badly acted Grange Hill episode, and thats pushing it. Very stale in its ideas and approach. Steer well clear there is far better ways of finding out how things are in the muslim world after 9/11 than this.- Was this review helpful to you?
