The original Kickboxer helped put Jean-Claude Van Damme on the Hollywood map; sadly, Tinseltown never really came calling for Sasha Mitchell, who nevertheless bravely soldiered on through three sequels. This is really no better or worse than any of them, with the slimmest of plots (the hunt for a kidnapped girl) helping to link the numerous fight sequences, which are competently, if unimaginatively, filmed by Rick King. The Brazilian locations provide the only breath of fresh air.
Only a slight variation here on the single plot that seems to serve for every martial arts movie, and there is no variation at all on the usual high-kicking and predictable action.
Don't Bother! - no zero star option?
I didn't expect a great movie and so this lived up to my expectations. Action was ok, storyline average. I'll watch number 4 just to complete the series.
