I have'nt read the book but really enjoyed the film. My only (slight) reservation is that much of the film is 'tonque in cheek' semi-comedy which I don't believe the book is? A reasonable history lesson also of the sub Colloden/Jacobite revolution.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)Great Adventure Novel Cheapened by Modernisms
By Seedyvee (187 reviews) from Grantham , 14 Jan 2013This was a good adventure novel made rather shallow and sensational in film by too many modernistic intrusions in the form of contemporary cliches, contrived humour and far-fetched changes of plot. The 'Long Mile Gang' looked too obviously modelled on the Black Riders of Lord of the Rings and seemed to come from another planet. Often the background music sounded like too many other cheap adventure films. Entertaining but not as good as the real thing i. e. the novel itself.- Was this review helpful to you?

Why???!!!!
By Hondo (26 reviews) from Isle of Skye , 26 Feb 2009This is the worst adaptation of Kidnapped I have ever seen. There is no need at all for the story to be changed or to have a certain group of people who were not in the book added and, to my mind, spoiling it. Considering the reputation the BBC have for costume drama and more or less faithful representation of the story I was shocked. The acting is not good and the actors do not fit the parts as they should. The Disney version is the better and I would recommend that to anyone who wants to see Kidnapped as it should be seen- Was this review helpful to you?
