After sitting through 2 hours of steam coming out of fake pavement and extras eating breakfast and long shots of actors moving through fake jungle,Peter Jackson says 'and now we can show you ten minutes of REALLY INTERESTING STUFF that we weren't allowed to show you before' and lo and behold-yes it's really him it's..King kong! And yes we actually get to see ten whole minutes of interesting stuff.I bought this pile of crud and I wish I'd rented it first because I was expecting something like the documentries on the extended edition of the lord of the rings dvds, instead we get lame attempts at jokes and 'in depth' footage of set builders and lighting men.Wonderful.The whole thing stinks of money grabbing and it's so unlike Peter Jackson to do this.We KNOW that he's saving the best stuff for the dvd of Kong so why release this? And where were the post-production diaries that Jackson mentions?I think the film was just so expensive that the studio people thought 'let's make some easy money, the plebs will buy anything',and maybe they're right-I bought it.Why do I feel so cheated?Because I trusted Peter Jackson, his films and making of's have always been first class.I hope this dvd doesn't start a trend-extra money for the studios from the scrapings of the bottom of the barrel.Peter Jackson's first sub-standard product.Avoid.

  • decent and enjoyable foray into the production

considering its the first disc theres enough info here about the film to warrant a second viewing, it even injects some comedy and humour on set by the director who doesnt looked stressed at all.if you think about it hes been through bigger stresses look at the rings trilogies. most of the specialist subjects from camera operating to prop making to higher ranking people give there accounts on what they do.if only more directors if not productions would make a seperate dvd box set for extras such as this.this is want we want to see not a 5minute making of where u see actors kiss each other butts.good viewing only if u interested in the film itself, the process, filmmaking in general, or if you are a filmmaker. if u arnt u wont like it. looking forward to the next disc.

  • Very interesting and concise making-off DVD

This was on the surface a money-making rip-off, using the online diary featurettes, but in fact, this was a very interesting insight into the film-making process, and one any inspiring film-maker, or film buff, should view.

Granted, there were some segments that were seemingly not required, but then again, the DVD may have been in danger of sliding into the realm of boredom had there not been some of the segments of humour.

  • A fascinating record of the filming process

If you have ever wondered how a film gets made, this is for you. Entertaining and informative and presented by Peter Jackson, it is a fascinating record of the filming process. Refreshingly, the emphasis is on content rather than presentation.
