In this timeless Beauty and the Beast classic, Willis O'Brien's amazing ape animation has lost little of its ability to startle, while Fay Wray's screams from the top of the Empire State Building remain etched in the memory. This is one of the very few movies that will live for ever, and you cannot call yourself a fantasy fan unless you've seen it at least three times. Made by a team of documentary film-makers who patterned fast-talking adventurer Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) after themselves, this is as good as mythic monster movies get.
The one and original lovable monster is lost amid all the hydraulic manipulations in what now emerges as the story of a dumb blonde who falls for a huge plastic finger.
Nowadays directors and writers seem to prefer to re-imagine classic movies (i.e. Tim burtons Planet of the Apes) rather than confess to ?remaking? them, this is probably to avoid comparisons. But this is most definitely a remake with almost precisely the same plot line. And inevitably it will be compared to the original (one of my all time favourites) and its not as good, it just lacks the spark that made the original so special.
Having said that a good movie, the performances are good and the effects are very convincing NO CG here! An entertaining and absorbing movie with an emotional ending. See it!

The cast and crew of the upcoming remake of King Kong have spoken to the press about the epic. Triple Oscar-winner Peter Jackson has decided to make the monster-movie his next project after the incredible success he enjoyed with his adaptation of JRR Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Jackson explained how he was enchanted by the 1933 original version of the monster-meets-blonde tale - and first filmed a version of it aged 13. "It's great to be able to finally get the film made. It's a... Read more
