I have recently seen shaolin soccer and kung fu hustle and enjoyed them a lot. I thought I'd seek out some other stephen chow films. This film is a few years older and made around the time wire fu was popular. The film was way over the top, the fights were stupid, loads of sped up action and the comedy wasn't that funny. I know you can't take his films seriously and this is more a comedy than action film but it was just daft.
Stephen Chow's period comedy action film is a classic Chinese folk tale with a twist. The wire-fu is suitably over the top with the comedy falling between broad farce and playground humour. Some of the comic action works well with some great support from an enthusiastic cast. Slow at the beginning, but plenty to keep you watching once the story gets going. This is not in the same league as "Shaolin Soccer" or "Kung Fu Hustle", but still well worth 90 minutes of your time.
