A typically vulgar tale from the Farrelly brothers, which lacks the soft centre that sweetened the taste of their biggest box-ffice hit There's Something about Mary. Their comedic Color of Money with bigger balls is populated by the most irredeemably unpleasant characters, yet we are expected to root for them. Humour-wise, this bowling comedy is a very mixed bag. Woody Harrelson's detachable rubber hand is overused to the point of annoyance, but there are some very funny moments involving Randy Quaid's Forrest Gump-like naivety. As you would expect, Bill Murray's flamboyant villain gains the most laughs.

One of the funniest movies of the 90s

Kingpin tells the story of a washed up bowling star (played by Woody Harrelson) who takes on a new Amish bowling prodigy (played by Randy Quaid) and tries to coach him to world series glory against his old rival (played by Bill Murray). Along the way, they pick up the battered girlfriend of a sleazy gangster and eventually end up at the world series.

There are so many stand out moments in this movie that are too numerous to mention and all the actors are on fine form, especially Bill Murray and his ridiculous hair. This is a must see if you like a good laugh. Don't be put off by the fact that the Farrelly Brothers directed it, this is their best to date.

    The Other Woody

    • 06 Aug 2007

'I'm not naïve, I'm superficial,' Woody Harrelson declares in Paul Schrader's new film, The Walker. Some people would suggest the actor has it the wrong way round. After all, he first planted himself in the public eye playing the dumbest jock on television in eight seasons of the sitcom Cheers. I've met Harrelson twice. The first time he was promoting Natural Born Killers, and I was impressed with how honestly he discussed his own anger issues. He talked about Jung and the need to explore your Read more
