(11)Fatally flawed epic
By a customer , 25 Apr 2013In many respects a really fine film by a master film maker--- outdoes the Americans in the genres of 'Road' and 'Buddy' moves. Great original music by one Axel Linstadt whose name has pretty well disappeared from the face of You Tube and amazon. But the movie was seriously marred by the disgusting and unnecessary defecation scene.- Was this review helpful to you?

road goes on for a bit
By chasquis (1 review) from Eye , 20 Jan 2010A very long but extremely worthwhile road trip with the playful ones. I wanted to watch it again almost immediately.- Was this review helpful to you?

Wait and Watch
By a customer from Wales , 30 Apr 2009Sometimes you wait in a quiet place and just watch things happening. You might sit in the cab of a big old furniture truck and watch the world over a dusty big dashboard. Sun comes up, sun goes down. Something passes that makes you smile. And then the driver climbs in beside you, looks over at you because he's never seen you before. But that's okay. He starts the engine and takes you with him. That's nice. You weren't doing anything anyway.
And the world is open. And it's pristine and beautiful black and white. And it'll stay with you. And sometimes it will call you back.- Was this review helpful to you?

A strangely depressing road movie
By a customer from Preston , 20 Jan 2009Young folk in the early to mid 1970s who yearned for a cool, alternative lifestyle would have considered one of the two central characters of this film to be a really heavy dude. These two men, played by Rüdiger Vogler and Hanns Zischler, were both too old to accurately represent that would-be opt-out generation; and the instability of Zischler's character, Robert, would have made him a very unwelcome companion on the road, being beyond uncool to the point of dangerously unstable.
On the other hand, Volger's character, Bruno, would have been considered an object of cult veneration thanks to his work which took him on the road as a projection-equipment mechanic, looking after rundown cinemas in what seemed a dispirited wasteland in an area of West Germany which one assumes was for the most part not far from the East German border. Bruno was at times out-of-character, however, in his casual littering of the countryside he passed through.- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow
By a customer from Selkirk , 06 Jan 2009I think I may have chosen the wrong time to watch this film. It arrived just after Christmas and I watched it as a wind down film after 2 hectic weeks, but its very very slow and couldn't hold my attention even though I think there is beauty and probably a lovely story in this. I gave up half way through but thats not to say its a bad film, just wrong timing. Think you need to watch this when you are fully attentive and not in post Christmas exhaustion!!- Was this review helpful to you?
