Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Screenwriter Shane Black of Lethal Weapon fame makes his directorial debut with this film noir. Robert Downey, Jr., stars as Harry Lockhart, a petty thief in New York City who quite literally stumbles into acting and soon finds himself in Los Angeles to test for a film role as a private detective. To help Harry prepare, his new agent arranges for him to shadow a gay private investigator, Perry van Shrike also known as 'Gay Perry' (Val Kilmer). But when Perry takes Harry along on a simple job for a mystery client, the two witness the disposal of a dead body, and the game suddenly becomes serious. Adding to the intrigue is Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), a beautiful and smart-as-a-whip wannabe starlet with whom Harry is so smitten that he pretends to be a real detective. Soon Harry, Perry, and Harmony are tangled in a life-threatening web of dead bodies, deception, and treachery.

  • Deliriously enjoyable.... The duo make a whole greater than the sum of their parts, a couple of highly flammable actors as famous for their volatile offscreen reputations as for their redoubtable acting chops

  • It's the laugh-a-minute repartee of this odd couple that drives the movie.... Kilmer revels in showing off his long-dormant talent for suave comedy

Most entertaining movie I've seen all year!!

This is a welcome return to form for screenwriter turned director Shane Black! This in my opinion is his best script yet, the witty and and non-stop banter between Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr almost had me rolling in the aisle on several occasions. Can't think of a more enjoyable movie I've seen this year, both Downey Jr's(I kept thinking how this superb actor has wasted a career with so much potential) and Kilmer's comic timing are of the highest calibre, Highly Recommended!!!

    It was 11 O'Clock...

Downey staggers and shines through a brilliant pastiche of gumshoe genre/Hollywood shallowness with winning style. I knew nothing about this film in advance and was engaged from scene one. At the point where I feared a pointless love interest, the plot veered off elsewhere. A clever [ but not knowall] tribute to Chandler et al. with a likeable offbeat American wit.
