Odd little film (although clocking in at over three hours means that 'little' is perhaps not the right word) which is distinctly uneven - very slow to start, picks up a bit and then flops again and doesnt really kick in properly until the second half. Pushes the bounds of credibility quite a lot in that it shoots off in all sorts of unexpected directions. Very black and white in its depictions of the baddies v the goodies. Izzard gives a very creditable performance, but ultimately its Sian Phillips in a scenery-chewing cameo as a harridan restaurant critic who eventually walks away with 'most memorable' award. 'Masterchef' it isnt.
